They are known as the Corgi with a tail. They are loyal, affectionate and even tempered. They can be country dogs or city dogs but wherever they stay, they need regular exercise and a steady job, if only to take care of their owners. They come in red, sable, brindle, black and blue merle and have a double coat that needs regular brushing.
They first arrived in Cardiganshire with the Celts in 1200. They were useful because tenant farmers were only permitted to fence off a few acres for their own use. The rest was common land. Cardies were clever enough to keep their owners’ cattle safe and secure, and courageous enough to control animals ten times their size.
