This breed makes great family pets.
Charles Shultz had it right; Snoopy was delightful and typical. In fact, this breed loves three things in life; children, food and rabbits.
When meeting a group of kids and adults, they will always turn to the kids first.
The have a tendency to overweight as they will eat whatever is put in front of them; they have no concept of “enough” when it comes to food. That’s why older ones can resemble footballs or even soccer balls.
They are definitely a hound and love nothing better than to hunt rabbits. If they get loose and catch a scent, they will happily follow it over hill and dale into the next county. They can also be noisy – and not everyone loves their melodious baying!
This is an ancient breed dating back to the 1500’s. English gentlemen developed these smaller cousins of the foxhound to hunt rabbits. Perhaps the name derived from the French term "be’geule," referring to the baying voice of the hounds when in pursuit of game.
