Dog Cards  --
And Prints, and Books......

I have been observing and drawing my own Silky Terriers since I first started to breed them in 1981. I have judged many other breeds at AKC matches, and have recently started drawing them as well.

It can be hard to find good dog cards.

Great dog greeting cards, sympathy cards and thank you cards, especially ones depicting your own breed, are few and far between.

The cards you do find are often either overly saccharine or depict dogs that act like humans. Most dog artists are artists first and don't really understand what makes dogs tick.

Click on The Store at About Small Dogs or click the Gallery button on the NavBar to browse and purchase your cards.

Although I love modern technology, I feel that sometimes only a card that can be held in the hand will do. A real card can convey the message that you are willing to take the time and effort to let that special someone know you care.

When you want a quality card with a touch of humor and a text that speaks to our current zeitgeist, a greeting from About Small Dogs is just right for you.

All texts can be easily customized at no extra cost, and there is never a charge for shipping. Come back often because I will expand each breed's line according to it's popularity.

It's nice to have beautiful yet reasonably priced prints of your breed. For the first time, we are offering our portraits as limited edition prints -- realistic and just a bit whimsical.

But What About Those Books?

Our website is all about getting you, the pet owner, sensible information that really helps. But sometimes having a book to hand that goes into the details of your breed or your special canine passion can be very useful as well. Our store has the books that I have written. Check out the links below for some other books that I have found entertaining and/or helpful.

Speaking For Spot by Nancy Kay, DVM

On Talking Terms With Dogs: Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas

Not widely known but nevertheless true -- many dedicated "dog people" also carry a secret yen for cats. (Shhh. I won't tell if you don't.) But in that case it can be also be fun to check out great cat books. A case in point:

The subtle wit and gentle satire of award-winning writer, Barbara Florio Graham, is back to back with her celebrity cat, Simon Teakettle, in a clever flip book designed to "a-muse" readers of all ages.

Barbara's satiric pieces on writing and teaching are coupled with several of her award-winning humorous poems as well as witty comments on living with the "classy cat in the black fur tuxedo."

Mewsings includes many of Simon's "Last Meow" pieces from Cats Magazine as well as a selection of his writings for radio and other media.
This 80-page book has laminated front and back covers, as well as a pull-out "centrefold" of Simon sprawled on a fur rug.  A purrfect gift!
