Silky Terriers are a lively breed that like people just fine but are not always friendly with other dogs.
They can be surprisingly sensitive and don't do well with rough handling. They are a joyful and happy breed, and once owned by them, most people say, "I had rather have a Silky make me merry."
Silkys are a close cousin of the Yorkshire Terrier, developed in Australia. They are between 9 to 10 inches at the shoulder. They have a medium-long blue body coat with tan on the face and feet. The blue on the body can be silver blue, pigeon blue or slate blue.
Silkys are an active breed that enjoy a good run. Of course, they also like to be a couch potato!
This is a famous Silky named Roy, Ch. Tawny Mist Shalee Royal Silk, who was one of the top winning and top producing dogs in the breed.
Silkys are curious and interested, they want to know what is going on. This is Ch. Tessier a Valiant Karasar, who was a Top 5 Silky.
Silkys can be independent and stubborn -- they need an owner who can be one step ahead of these clever little dogs.
Silkys are definitely a big dog in a small package. They often think they can take on the world, including every big dog in the neighborhood. Smart owners never let their pocket Mohammed Alis know their real size.
Silkys are a sturdy, long-coated small terrier, loyal to their people but somewhat suspicious of strangers. They are good watchdogs but aren't as noisy as some other breeds.
Is the Silky Terrier right for you? If you are looking for a high energy terrier that greets every day with joy, then just maybe.
